DAYTON, Ohio – – February 28, 2014 – – In a short period of time, the Local Organizing Committee for the NCAA First Four in Dayton, Ohio has secured financial commitments from three NBA players in support of the Hoopla Ticket Program. The latest commitment comes from 2010 NIT MVP and former Dayton Flyer Chris Johnson. Johnson is currently a guard-forward for the NBA’s Boston Celtics.

“I am happy to support the Hoopla Ticket Program and give back to the Dayton community in my first contribution,” said Chris Johnson, Boston Celtics and University of Dayton ’12. “From the University of Dayton and the coaching staffs, to the support from the community and the Flyer Nation, to the life-long friends I made while attending UD, the Dayton Region is a huge reason I am in the NBA today.”

“Earlier this month Chris received his first guaranteed NBA contract and within weeks he makes this significant commitment to support our community through the Hoopla Ticket Program,” said JP Nauseef, Local Organizing Committee Chairman. “CJ is a great example of everything unique about our community and his partnership further demonstrates everything we are trying to showcase about the Dayton Region.”

The Hoopla Ticket Program is one of several community-focused initiatives of The Big Hoopla and the Local Organizing Committee. The 2014 Hoopla Community Events (daytonhoopla.com) help to further Dayton’s position as America’s number one host site while providing a unique opportunity for students and Airmen from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base to attend the 2014 NCAA First Four games on March 18 & 19.

“The military is a huge part of the Dayton community and the Hoopla Ticket Program provides NCAA Tournament tickets to the brave men and women who selflessly serve our country,” continued Johnson. “During my first few years as a Dayton Flyer, our teams studied the military and tried to emulate the tremendous teamwork they exhibit. I am looking forward to being part of the great team Hoopla Sponsors whose teamwork supports Airmen from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.”

“Chris was always a fan-favorite during his time as a Dayton Flyer,” noted Nauseef. “The effort he gave on and off the court resonated with the fans and his partnership with entire The Big Hoopla effort is a demonstration of his commitment to Dayton and America’s most passionate college basketball fans – especially since this is the first charitable contribution of his NBA career.”

All fans can take part in supporting local students and Airmen at Wright-Patt by purchasing tickets to the 2014 tournament at UD Arena. For each ticket purchased, The Big Hoopla will purchase and donate tickets to local students and Airmen on your behalf.
